The Emma Program is successful because many in the community put their time and resources towards the program. There are many different ways you can help;
MENTORING / VOLUNTEERING – A good mentor is worth their weight in gold. Mentors need to be able to commit to the program on a regular basis. You will be given training and support and the girls really appreciate having a person within the program that is just there for them.
DONATIONS – Baby and parenting gear is expensive and so donations are always appreciated. The type of donations that are useful are books on topics such as parenting, clothes (both baby and maternity), baby toys (sorry, no soft toys due to OHS) and any baby furniture and safety seats. Please make sure that all donated items are clean and in good working condition. Ask the question ‘Would I want my child to use this?’ If the answer is yes, then we would love to have it donated.
In regards to money donations, please contact Leah Houghton 0419 720 888 before donating. We want to use your gift in a way that reflects your heart and reason for donating. A discussion before donating allows us to make sure it is used in a way that is valued by you and by the Emma participants. However, if you would like to donate
anonymously please donate either by a cheque in the mail or get it dropped into the centre marked 'Lyn Baird Confidential'.
EVENTS – At various times through the year, the EMMA program runs events – big and small. They can be the End of Year Ball for the girls, a fundraising event, or a day out for the girls and their children. These all demand extra time from the staff which is often given on a volunteer basis. If you have skills in organising events or have a servant heart that would love to help in running these times, please let us know and we will keep you busy.
TRANSPORT – Many of our girls do not have their license or access to reliable and safe transport. If you have a current license and a vehicle with current registration and insurance and would like to assist the program in doing some transport runs please contact us. This would enable the staff to have more time to prepare for the day and gives another friendly face for the girls to talk to before and after the program.
